Located at the highest point in North County San Diego is the community of San Elijo Hills. Already open in the San Elijo Towncenter are the first retail stores including Peppertree Eatery & Take-Out, Windmill Cleaners, Chevron gas station, a convenience store and car wash. A “Premium Fresh & Healthy” format Albertsons with an in-house Sav-On Pharmacy opened in June of 2008. The San Elijo Hills Towncenter also now includes community-serving retailers including a postal front, a frozen yogurt shop, nail salon, and a pizza place.
San Elijo Hills Parks & Recreation:
Located in the Northwest corner of the San Elijo Hills Town Square is the San Elijo Hills Community Park. This 19-acre park hosts both family and community wide events. The San Elijo Hills Community Park has 6,500 sq. ft. community center, a dog park, picnic areas, tot lots, two ball fields and a soccer field, all fully lighted for night-time games. The San Elijo Hills community center features a unique outdoor classroom with perfect space for special activities and also serves as the main trailhead for the comprehensive 18-mile network of hiking trails.
Constructed by the San Elijo Hills Development Company, the 250-acre Double Peak Regional Park is located on the highest peak in coastal North County San Diego. This public park includes a 150-seat outdoor amphitheatre, a group picnic canopy, picnic tables, an adventure play area, rest rooms, and plenty of public parking. Hiking trails within the park are open and connect into an 18 mile network of trails throughout San Elijo Hills and into San Marcos.
San Elijo Hills Schools:
Both San Elijo Hills schools are located within the San Marcos Unified School District (SMUSD). The San Marcos Unified School District boasts ten schools that have received the California Distinguished Schools designation. Both San Elijo Hills schools are located right in the heart of the community in the Towncenter.
San Elijo Elementary School opened in Fall 2006 and is located immediately adjacent to San Elijo Middle School. The Elementary School serves kindergarten through fifth grades. San Elijo Middle School opened in Fall 2004 and serves sixth through eighth grades. Area high school students currently attend San Marcos High School. This school, a comprehensive 9-12 grade school, became a California Distinguished School in May, 1996 and received a Western Association of Schools and Colleges accreditation in 1997.
California State University San Marcos is located just over the hill a few miles away from San Elijo Hills. California State University San Marcos is one of the youngest and fastest-growing CSU campuses and is a trail-blazer in hands-on education relevant to today’s global and technology-rich society.

To visit San Elijo Hills from the 5 freeway, exit Palomar Airport Rd. and travel east about 5 miles. Turn Right at Melrose Dr. and continue straight across Rancho Sante Fe Rd. Turn Left at San Elijo Rd. and travel until you reach San Elijo Hills Towncenter.
